Demi Moore smoked something before she was rushed to the hospital on Monday night and was convulsing and “semi-conscious, barely,” according to a caller on a frantic 911 recording released Friday by Los Angeles fire officials.

The woman tells emergency operators that Moore, 49, had been “having issues lately.”

“Is she breathing normal?” the operator asks.

“No, not so normal. More kind of shaking, convulsing, burning up,” the friend says as she hurries to Moore’s side, on the edge of panic.

The audio recording captures the 10 minutes it took paramedics to arrive as friends gather around the collapsed star and try to comfort her as she trembles and shakes.

Another woman is next to Moore as the dispatcher asks if she’s responsive.

“Demi, can you hear me?” she asks. “Yes, she’s squeezing hands. … She can’t speak.”

When the operator asks what Moore ingested or smoked, the friend replies, but the answer was redacted.

“Some form of … and then she smoked something. I didn’t really see. She’s been having some issues lately with some other stuff. So I don’t know what she’s been taking or not,” the friend says.

The city attorney’s office advised the fire department to redact details about medical conditions and substances to comply with federal medical privacy rules.

Asked if Moore took the substance intentionally or not, the woman says Moore ingested it on purpose but the reaction was accidental.

“Whatever she took, make sure you have it out for the paramedics,” the operator says.

The operator asks the friend if this has happened before.

“I don’t know,” she says. “There’s been some stuff recently that we’re all just finding out.”

Moore’s publicist, Carrie Gordon, said previously that the actress sought professional help to treat her exhaustion and improve her health. She would not comment further on the emergency call or provide details about the nature or location of Moore’s treatment.

The past few months have been rocky for Moore.

She released a statement in November announcing she had decided to end her marriage to fellow actor Ashton Kutcher, 33, following news of alleged infidelity. The two were known to publicly share their affection for one another via Twitter.

Moore still has a Twitter account under the name mrskutcher but has not posted any messages since Jan. 7.

During the call, the woman caller says the group of friends had turned Moore’s head to the side and were holding her down. The dispatcher tells her not to hold her down but to wipe her mouth and nose and watch her closely until paramedics arrive.

“Make sure that we keep an airway open,” the dispatcher says. “Even if she passes out completely, that’s OK. Stay right with her.”

The phone is passed around by four people, including a woman who gives directions to the gate and another who recounts details about what Moore smoked or ingested. Finally, the phone is given to a man named James, so one of the women can hold Moore’s head.

There was some confusion at the beginning of the call. The emergency response was delayed by nearly two minutes as Los Angeles and Beverly Hills dispatchers sorted out which city had jurisdiction over the street where Moore lives.

As the call is transferred to Beverly Hills, the frantic woman at Moore’s house raises her voice and said, “Why is an ambulance not on its way right now?”

“Ma’am, instead of arguing with me why an ambulance is not on the way, can you spell (the street name) for me?” the Beverly Hills dispatcher says.

Although the estate is located in the 90210 ZIP code above Benedict Canyon, the response was eventually handled by the Los Angeles Fire Department.

By the end of the call, Moore has improved.

“She seems to have calmed down now. She’s speaking,” the male caller told the operator.

Moore and Kutcher were wed in September 2005.

Kutcher became a stepfather to Moore’s three daughters _ Rumer, Scout and Tallulah Belle — from her 13-year marriage to actor Bruce Willis. Moore and Willis divorced in 2000 but remained friendly.

Moore and Kutcher created the DNA Foundation, also known as the Demi and Ashton Foundation, in 2010 to combat the organized sexual exploitation of girls around the globe. They later lent their support to the United Nations’ efforts to fight human trafficking, a scourge the international organization estimates affects about 2.5 million people worldwide.

Moore can be seen on screen in the recent films “Margin Call” and “Another Happy Day.” Kutcher replaced Charlie Sheen on TV’s “Two and a Half Men” and is part of the ensemble film “New Year’s Eve.”

BEVERLY HILLS (CBS) — When actress Demi Moore needed an ambulance to come to her home in Beverly Hills recently, she found just how confusing and infuriating the jurisdictions between cities can be.

Moore, 49, was taken to the hospital Monday night following a frantic 911 call that first began with confusion over which city’s fire department should send an ambulance.

Beverly Hills Operator: “Beverly Hills Fire.”

LA City Fire Operator: “Hey Beverly Hills, LA City Fire over here. We got a lady at 9740…”

Woman:  “9740 [address redacted] in Beverly Hills. We need an ambulance here as soon as possible please.”

Beverly Hills: “OK. We don’t cover [address redacted]. Is it spelled…[unintelligible]

Woman: “Why is an ambulance not on its way right now?”

[unintelligible]

Beverly Hills: “Ma’am instead of arguing with me why an ambulance is not on the way, can you spell it for me?”

After the woman spells the street name for the operator…

Beverly Hills: “OK, sir, that’s not going to be ours. My supervisor’s advising me that’s LA City.”

LA City: “That’s coming up in LA City? OK….I will handle it Beverly Hills…”

The exchange over which city fire department should respond to the home took over two minutes.

Jurisdictional confusion is a fact of life in Los Angeles and its surrounding cities, where 911 calls made on cell phone calls go straight to the California Highway Patrol, which then has to route the call to the proper agency. The problem is further compounded by many people dropping their landlines, which show emergency dispatchers a physical address, in favor of using their cell phones solely to make calls.

Often, as Moore’s 911 recording demonstrates, even the agencies handling emergency calls aren’t sure about the jurisdictional lines. In some cases, the city’s fire or police department will respond, in others, county fire or the sheriff’s department will answer the call. For freeway and certain highway incidents, the CHP responds.

As for Moore, she is being treated for exhaustion at a rehab center. TMZ reports that Moore’s friends told paramedics the actress was doing “whip-its,” or sniffing canisters like whipped cream for its nitrous oxide. The caller also revealed Moore has been having “issues.”

Demi Moore suffered convulsions after smoking an undisclosed substance, according to a tape of an emergency call from last Monday.

The 49-year-old actress is described as “semi-conscious, barely” in the recording, which was released by Los Angeles fire officials.

The tape captures the few minutes it took paramedics to arrive as friends gathered round the collapsed star.

In November, she ended her marriage to actor Ashton Kutcher, 33.

In the emergency call, a woman is asked by operators: “Is she [Moore] breathing normal?”

“No, not so normal,” the woman says. “More kind of shaking, convulsing, burning up.”

When the dispatcher asks if Moore has ingested or smoked any substance, the woman replies: “She smoked something. It’s not marijuana but it is similar to incense.”

But the full answer was redacted on the advice of the city attorney’s office, citing federal medical privacy rules.

“She’s been having some issues lately with some other stuff,” says the woman.

Asked by the operator if this has happened before, the female voice says: “There’s been some stuff recently that we’re all just finding out.”

By the end of the call, Moore’s condition appears to improve.

A man tells the operator: “She seems to have calmed down now. She’s speaking.”

The actress’s publicist has previously said Moore suffered from exhaustion.

Her split from Kutchner, whom she married in 2005, followed allegations of his infidelity.

Moore was formerly married to actor Bruce Willis, with whom she had three daughters Rumer, Scout and Tallulah Belle.

Demi Moore's 911 phone call

Demi Moore’s panicked friend told an emergency services operator she had ‘smoked something’ and was suffering from ‘convulsions’ on the night she was hospitalised.

The actress was rushed to Sherman Oaks Hospital on Monday evening (23.01.12), after suffering a seizure at a birthday party she was hosting at her home, and details of the frantic 911 call have now been released.

The star’s friend can be heard saying: ‘We need an ambulance here as soon as possible. Why is an ambulance not on its way right now? She smoked something. It’s not marijuana, but it’s similar to, it’s similar to incense, and she seems to be having convulsions of some sort.’

The dispatcher then asked the terrified pal if Demi, 49, was conscious and breathing.

The friend replied: ‘Yes, well semi-conscious, barely … And she’s convulsing. She smoked something, but the reaction was accidental. It’s accidental.’

Another friend, a woman, then takes the phone and reveals Demi had taken another substance before the smoking incident.

The operator asks: ‘Is she breathing normally?’

To which the second person responds: ‘No, um, not so normal, but more sort of shaking, convulsing. But burning up … She’s been having some issues lately with some other stuff, so I don’t know what she’s been taking.’

The name of the first substance was wiped from the recording that was released on Friday (27.01.12) because of federal patient privacy regulations.

A male friend then picks up the call and tells the operator that Demi has ‘calmed down all of a sudden’ and is ‘breathing fine’.

Paramedics arrived at the actress’ Franklin Canyon house in California shortly before 11pm on Monday and after treating her for 30 minutes at the property rushed her to Sherman Oaks Hospital.

Demi filed for divorce from Ashton Kutcher, her husband of six years, in November, after he was accused of cheating on her.

The ‘Ghost’ star has been alleged to be suffering from anorexia and substance abuse issues, including abusing the amphetamine-based prescription drug Adderrall which is used to treat narcolepsy.

Demi – who has three daughters with her ex-husband Bruce Willis – has also been reported to be hooked on the energy drink Red Bull.
